Trio Live in New York at Jazz Standard
Studio recordings are wonderful documents of musicians and ensembles at certain milestones, yet they can be a bit unfair to both listeners and musicians who are interested in the natural development of the music. Pianist/composer Edward Simon has recognized this disparity and has decided to release the first live recording in his discography, Live In New York at Jazz Standard. The recording was done with his outstanding trio featuring two astounding sidemen, bassist John Patitucci and drummer Brian Blade.

Unicity
Edward Simon attains the apotheosis of his march to concision, working hand-in-glove with this sublime bass-drum tandem. Each is simultaneously a sound painter and a groove master. Extraordinary chemistry. (Ted Panken)

Each a leader, pianist Edward Simon and alto saxophonist David Binney, who have worked together on numerous projects since 1989, present their second collaborative effort, comprising eight emotion-packed, rhythmically vibrant tunes by Binney, Simon, and bassist Scott Colley.
Propelled by the extraordinarily nuanced, intuitive playing of Colley and drummer Brian Blade, the instrument-like voice of Luciana Souza, and tonal color from guitarist Adam Rogers and brassmen Shane Endsley, Jesse Newman and Alan Ferber, plus percussionist Pernell Saturnino, the co-leaders solo with rigorous compositional sensibility that only serves to highlight the deep soulfulness and virtuosic chops that make them major forces in 21st century jazz

Simplicitas
Perhaps no contemporary pianist blends Latin and Jazz vocabulary with the deftness and fluency of Ed Simon, who demonstrates the point on his second Criss Cross outing.
Bassist Avishai Cohen and drummer Adam Cruz, both equally versed in the art of telling stories in swing and clave, join Simon on a program of six originals and a standard You're My Everything.
Guitarist Adam Rogers, and vocalist Luciana Souza augment the trio on the tune Unknown Path.
